My Way to Become a Policeman.

Application.

I just graduated from high school and I have decided to apply in Police Technology. Now I have to choose between two colleges. I have the option to go study at the Ahuntsic College in Montreal, where my girlfriend lives or to go study at the Garneau College in Quebec, where all my of friends and family live. What should I do?

Choice 1 : Apply to Ahuntsic College.

Choice 2 : Apply to Garneau College.

graduate from high school

Apply to Ahuntsic College.

I pass the first step to being accepted at the Ahuntsic College. Now I have to succeed some physical tests to be accepted. One of the tests is in the water, but I am not a good swimmer. However, I'm pretty good at all of the other tests. So, I have to make a choice between working hard and learn how to become a great swimmer or I can just enjoy my summer and bet on the skills I already have.

Choice 1 : Learn How to swim.

Choice 2 : Enjoy my summer

Ahuntsic college

Apply to Garneau College.

I have made the decision to stay in Quebec. I know that the Garneau College has a lot of physical tests so, if I hope to be accepted, I have to be in great condition. However, I am a hockey player and I know that I am really good at doing physical tests. Knowing that, I decide to enjoy my summer. I have been working really hard all my time at high school, now I want to have fun. I just have to decide If I am going to spend the summer at Montreal with my girlfriend or if I am going to spend the summer at Quebec with my friends.

Choice 1 : Spend the summer with the boys.

Choice 2 : Spend the summer with my girlfriend.

Learn How to swim.

I have been working really hard all summer to learn how to be a good swimmer. I took private class and I became better. I succeed my swimming test and now I'm officially accepted at the Ahuntsic College. I have to do three years in Police Technology before I can apply to the National Police School and then become a policeman. During those three years I have the option to continue my hard work by concentrating on school to get the better grades possible or to get a new job and manage to mix my time between school and work.

Choice 1 : Staying focus on school.

Choice 2 : Getting a new job.

Learning how to swim

Enjoy my summer.

What a summer! I have been to two music festivals with my girlfriend, I have been to the United States with some friends for 2 weeks and I had a lot of parties. I had a really nice summer. However, I did not practice my swimming skills and that come out during my swimming test. I had a terrible performance, so I was not accepted in Police Technology. I will have to try again on the next selection.

Choice 1 : Try again

Enjoying my summer

Spend the summer with the boys.

When my girlfriend learned I applied at the Garneau College, she was pissed. She wanted me to go at the Ahuntsic College, so we could move together. We had an argument and because I did not want to have a summer with negative vibes, I decide to spend it with my friends in Quebec. I went to a lot of parties, drank a lot of alcohol and slept late. I was not stressed to do my physical tests because I knew I was an athlete, but with that intense summer, I had lost my shape and when was the time to do my physical tests, I failed. I can't enter Police Technology this year.

Choice 1 : Make better choices

Party with my friends

Spend the summer with my girlfriend.

When my girlfriend learned I applied at the Garneau College, she was pissed. She wanted me to go at the Ahuntsic College, so we could move in together. We had an argument and because I did not want to ruin our relationship, I decided to spend all the summer with her in Montreal. We had a lot of fun, and we improved our bond. So much so, that at one point in the summer, I decided that I don't want to study in Quebec and live a long distance relationship, so I did not go to my physical tests. I just have to wait for a year before I can apply in Montreal.

Choice 1 : Try another path

spending some time with my girlfriend

Staying focus on school.

I am doing pretty well at school. I have got amazing grade but I realize that I am doing nothing but study. Slowly, I am getting bored, and I am losing interest in school. I miss my friend in Quebec, so I decide to go see them more often. More and more I am having fun instead of studying and it is starting to show in my grades. When I realized it, it was the end of the semester and it was too late. I failed two courses and instead of doing them again, I decide to give up and quit Police Technology.

Choice 1 : Try something else

Getting a new job.

I started working at the restaurant L'Avenue. By the same occasion, I started to make some money and new friends. Working did not affect my grades, on the contrary, it motivated me because it gave me a life outside of school. At first, I was working only on weekends, but then, my boss asked me if I could work two more day in the week. I had to choose...

Choice 1 : Working only on weekends.

Choice 2 : Working two more days.

cook

Working only on weekends.

This schedule was perfect to let me manage correctly my time between school and work. It gave me enough money to let me live and it gave me enough time to let me study for school. However, I was obligated to take a student loan to pay for my apartment. In the end, it gave me the opportunity to achieve successfully my three years program, but now I have to wait before I can apply to the National Police School because it costs a lot of money and with the student loan I have to pay back, I can not afford to pay that right now. Maybe next year...

Choice 1 : Maybe there is a better way...

Working two more days.

I have been doing a lot of money even enough to put some aside for the National Police School. However, with school it has been more difficult. I continued to have great grades, but I was doing all of my studying at the last minute. All of my teachers warned the group not to fall behind because it would be difficult to catch up. I am someone who normally gets straight A's without big effort, so normally I would not listen to them, but since I really want to become a policeman, maybe I should listen to them.

Choice 1 : It's doing well, don't change anything.

Choice 2 : I should take my teachers advise and stop procrastinating.

It's doing well, don't change anything.

I put aside my teachers warning because I used to work thoroughly, and that always went well. In fact, I have a difficulty with time management, but I always succeed to pull off good grades. Therefore, when the semester project was given, I waited until the end to start it. Eventually, I realized I was missing time, so it has been a cursory work, though I was sure to have a good grade. A few weeks later I got my score. I failed the work... The teacher told me that I have done an image appropriation because I didn't tell the source. If I had done my project sooner, I could have done it correctly. Instead, I failed the course and got a note to my file saying that have plagiarized during an exam. With all that, I decided to quit Police Technology.

Choice 1 : sorry, try again

I should take my teachers advise and stop procrastinating.

I knew that I was working a lot, so I decided to stop procrastinating. I did a little of school work every day, and I realized it was way easier and effective. I performed very well in all of my courses and I graduated in top of my cohort. Now, I just apply to the National Police School. Unfortunately, because of the Covid-19, there is a one-year wait before being accepted at Nicolet. During this wait, I have the option to go to the University to study mental health problems, work full-time at my current job at the restaurant L'Avenue or working full-time at job related to my field of study.

Choice 1 : Go to university.

Choice 2 : Work full-time at my current job.

Choice 3 : Work full-time at a job related to my field of study.

Graduating from Police Technology

Go to university.

I decided to go study mental health problems at the university because the third of the calls made to the police concerns people with mental health condition. I did not achieve my degree because I only have a year of waiting, but still I learned a lot. It helped me go through my training at the National Police School, but more importantly, when was the time to apply in the police force I was accepted to the SPVQ (in Quebec) because they were looking for a policeman with a good knowledge of mental illness. I am back in my hometown, and I am happy to have the career that I love in the city that I love.

Choice 1 : Good job! You succeed

SPVQ badge

Work full-time at my current job.

I have been working to the restaurant for three years. At first, I didn't have any experience in this area. I was hired because I showed willingness to learn. However, I was told that I had to start as a trainee to learn the ins-and-outs of the job. Obviously, my wage was proportional to my status, but I thought it would be a good occasion for me to learn something new. So, I started my OJT with one of my colleagues. Personally, I was scared to be taught by a coworker because I knew they all went to the culinary school, and I thought they all had bias against me due to my lack of knowledge. Fortunately, it wasn't the case. I was charmed by their desire to teach me, and I learned a lot. For me, OJT was perfect to learn the practical skills of this job. After three years, I got better, and I was able to learn all the ins-and-outs of my job, so I could train new trainees. So, with all the way I have come, I decided to stay at my current job. I made a lot of money, so I could pay back my student loan. However, there is a drawback. After graduating from Nicolet, due to my lack of experience and knowledge the only ones who wanted to hire me were the posts in northern Quebec. I am happy to do the career I love, but sadly, for my first years, I have to do it in a remote area.

Choice 1 : you succeed

working as a cook

Work full-time at a job related to my field of study.

I wanted to make money to pay back my loan, but I also wanted to get experience in my field of study, so I decide to become an intervention agent in a rehabilitation center for intellectual disabilities. That gave me the opportunity to learn about me, about my limits, it also taught me how to intervene physically and how people with mental illness act. After graduating from Nicolet, I applied to my favorite places, and because of my experience I was accepted to all of them. Furthermore, I had the occasion to pay completely my student loan. So, now I have the career I love, where I want and I can have a fresh start without any dept.

Choice 1 : Congratulations, you succeed!
